JOB SUMMARY

The Teen Corps Educator works with members of the Community Outreach & Education Department (COE) to support the Teen Corps program. The Educator will work directly with a group of teen interns in a summer work experience program; therefore, should have a strong interest in working with and sharing knowledge with teens. The Educator works with COE staff and the Teen Corps & Farmers Market Coordinator to deliver program content, facilitate field trips, perform garden work and assist with Farmers Market operations.

Additional Information: This is a part-time, seasonal position working an average of 25 hours per week from June 1 - August 10 2026. Some weeks may require a commitment of up to 40 hours dependent upon Educational programming. Part-Time seasonal staff will receive complimentary Conservatory membership and participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).

Compensation: $16/hour paid biweekly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Teen Corps and Farmers Market Coordinator:
  • Assists Educators with the development and implementation of Teen Corps programs and activities.
  • Program topics include horticulture, art, nature, and nutrition, life skills and entrepreneurship.
  • Creates materials and offers suggestions for interactive Teen-focused activities.
  • Creates weekly schedules for program participants.
  • Facilitates potential program Field Trips.
  • Assists with weekly Farmers Market operations, including supervising the Teen Corps booth.
  • Photographs and documents Teen Corps activities for archives, future promotion, and funding for the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates a focus on serving the visitors and guests of the Conservatory, maintaining the highest standards of customer service.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of horticulture, art, health and wellness, nutrition, environmental education, and child development.
  • 6 months related work experience.
  • Knowledge of outdoor recreation and informal learning techniques.
  • Valid Driver’s License with the ability to provide own transportation.

SKILLS REQUIRED AND RESULTS TYPICALLY ACHIEVED

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate tasks with others.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
  • Ability to engage groups of teenagers with enthusiasm.
  • A professional demeanor with highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Experience working in an ethnically diverse organization.
  • Flexible with the ability to effectively adapt to change and shift gears comfortably, embracing change with a “can do” attitude.
  • Have an interest/appreciation for gardening, youth education and nature.
  • Ability to move about for up to 5 miles/day and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Current child First Aid/CPR training is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting.
