JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Security maintains a safe and secure environment for visitors, staff and campus while prioritizing an excellent visitor experience. This position is responsible for ensuring security of the property, staff and visitors by identifying and reducing potential dangers, protecting all assets, controlling access, and developing and maintaining vital relationships with local safety organizations, while fostering a sense of welcome and belonging for all people.

Additional Information: This is a full-time, exempt position. The selected candidate will be eligible for the Conservatory's benefit package offered to full-time employees, which includes medical, dental and vision insurance, company paid Life/AD&D/Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement Program (OPERS), optional 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan, accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) which starts at 23 days annually, accrued Sick Time, 3 paid holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day), and complimentary membership to the Conservatory.

Compensation: $70,000-$80,000 Yearly Salary

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate, develop, and implement emergency procedures, policies, and protocols for the institution. Make recommendations to leadership about ways to improve safety and security and be able to implement those recommendations.
  • Provide vision and leadership for the full range of security training for the institution. Develops and leads training for a variety of security topics including but not limited to all staff training, first responder training, de-escalation and department specific security training.
  • Leads and facilitates large projects such as maintaining best security practices, updating and maintaining emergency procedures, interdepartmental safety-training, and security onboarding.
  • Works with visitor-facing departments to ensure proper models are developed and upheld that allow for safe and positive experiences.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment and software systems while planning for future growth and upgrades to systems to align with current technologies.
  • Cultivate working relationships with community partners on a city, state, federal level such as CPD, Homeland Security, and more.
  • Works interdepartmentally to assess operational needs for security concerns, special events and building access.
  • Manages the Security team, including budget, hiring a diverse and talented staff, training and development of security staff and maintaining appropriate staffing levels year round.
  • Can serve as the first responder for incidents including injuries, emergency situations, and de-escalation of upset visitors.
  • Participates on operational or other committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates focus on serving the guests of Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including manager on duty role and on-call response for emergencies as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Minimum 5-7 years of managerial and administrative experience required. Experience managing multiple employees is preferred.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in safety and/or security required (experience with non-profit, cultural organization, or entertainment venue preferred.)

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Experience and/or training with security technology strongly preferred.

  • First Aid, CPR, AED Certification preferred.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate others and communicate effectively with internal and external clients.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects, problem solve, and delegate duties.

  • Situationally and socially aware. Understanding of diverse cultures and backgrounds.

  • Growth mindset and desire to pursue professional development.

  • Ability to work within budgets and support revenue goals.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient with basic software programs (Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite).

  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends, occasional evenings and holidays.

  • Ability to support the core values and mission of Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to use a full range of body movement to assist visitors and ensure safety.

  • Must be able to walk on flat or incline surfaces (up and down) and go up and down stairs, especially in emergency situations.
