JOB SUMMARY

The Seasonal Outreach Educator delivers in-school programs at Columbus City Schools (CCS) as part of a partnership to create a fun camp-like summer school experience. The Outreach Educator engages, inspires, educates, and captivates CCS students in grades K-4 utilizing educational objectives. Programming will be taught in person, weekdays. The Seasonal Outreach Educator assists with the delivery of educational programs as assigned and serves as an active member of the Community Outreach & Education Team.

This position starts 6/12/24 and ends 7/12/24; 20-25 hours per week.

Compensation: $15/hour

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the School Program Supervisor:

  • Travels to and delivers educational programming at Columbus City Schools and onsite at the Conservatory as assigned.

  • Works cooperatively with Education staff to implement creative, fun, and marketable educational outreach programs.

  • Along with all COE Team members: prepares, copies, collates, distributes, and retrieves teaching and other support materials.

  • Assists with program evaluation and assessment.

  • Participates as an active member of the team to help envision future educational programming and projects as they relate to overall Conservatory growth.

  • Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates a focus on serving patrons of the Conservatory, maintaining the highest standards of customer service.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Completed at least 1 year towards an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Natural Science, Environment, Biology, Fine Arts, or similar field.

  • Proficient in the techniques of informal learning and a keen interest in sharing knowledge.

  • Experience in teaching children and youth in either a formal or informal education environment is preferred.

  • Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Drive and Zoom.

  • Ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting.

SKILLS REQUIRED AND RESULTS TYPICALLY ACHIEVED

  • Ability to engage groups of students with enthusiasm.

  • Ability to do some programmatic work and research offsite (computer, web access).

  • A professional demeanor with highly developed interpersonal skills.

  • Self-confident and skilled at public speaking.

  • Must have transportation to school sites.

  • Ability to work weekday mornings (M-F, 8:00 AM -1:00 PM).

  • Ability to work in a team setting.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain on an exact schedule of events.

  • Ability to deliver educational content that follows written lessons and departmental goals.

  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles/day, and lift up to 40 pounds with or without accommodation.
